Internet Users Spending

Even More Time on Web

US Web population increases online leisure time, but still trails China. Americans are spending more time online, on both a daily and weekly basis. At-home access far outstripped at-work access time in 2008, according to Harris Interactive. Expect both trends to continue in 2009, as a hefty percentage of unemployed people use the Internet to find jobs or additional training or education, and adults who are worried about the economic and international news check in more frequently. WHILE BOTH ADVERTISERS AND AGENCIES alike are busy obsessing over the right model for playing beyond the banner in social networks like FaceBook, one has to wonder whether or not they’ve simply given up caring about video ad formats.  Last I clicked, they still seem to be content just running cutdowns of :30 TV commercials as awareness toppers to their already shrinking TV budgets.

5 Mobile Search Trends For 2009

Trend #1: Content and commerce transaction revenues will continue to dwarf mobile advertising revenue — and will come from more off-portal sources.  According to Jupiter Research and numerous other sources, mobile content transactions generated more than $25 billion in worldwide revenue in 2008 and is projected to exceed $50 billion by 2012-13. Add mobile commerce to the mix (in Japan, M-Commerce grossed $6 billion in 2007, double mobile content sales) and transaction-oriented behavior will top $100 billion in this timeframe. (more…)

Video At Work… On The Desk!

Nielsen Online says with a 96 percent broadband penetration among at-work Web visitors in October, and many employees spending nearly eight hours a day at their computers, workdays are prime time for online video viewing. The recently released report says that 65 percent of online video viewers stream content between 9am - 5pm Monday through Friday, compared to 51 percent of online video viewers who log on between 6am - 8pm on weekends.
