How Buying Decisions Are Made

We absorb information through our sensory perceptions and process this information unconsciously, automatically, habitually. How these perceptions are processed by our conscious mind determines the decisions it will make. So, even though our conscious mind is actively absorbing all manner and forms of impressions, it is totally unaware of most of them. It can literally do it in its sleep. In fact, it can’t stop doing it! The conscious mind doesn’t need to be aware, because it doesn’t have to make decisions. Decisions, every last one of them, are made by the subconscious mind.

It is in the subconscious mind where expectations, perceptions, reactions, attitudes, associations, beliefs, opinions and conclusions are formulated, each a product of our lifetime experiences since birth.

The fuel required by our personality comes in the form of sensory input from the conscious mind. If this fuel is compatible with expectations, the unconscious mind says, “Yes,” otherwise, “No.” And the decision is made instantaneously the moment the conscious mind gets a taste.

All that happens after that moment of truth, after a decision has been made, is that the subconscious mind sends its answer up to the conscious mind, which then assembles the rational support for its emotional commitment. And that’s how decisions are made each and every time! No one has ever made a rational decision to do or buy anything! Little real thought enters into the equation!
